At last somebody has the temerity and guts to say enough is enough.  The constant police harassment and unnecessary restrictions(both on labour day and the weeks prior), the inability of NY city and state and WIADCA to financially assist MAS men and Pan Men and their inability to represent us completely has caused many of us to literally drop out. Obviously this is what the Hassidic community wants so they could stifle our cultural extravaganza.  That this carnival/festival generates some $300 million in revenue most of it going to small merchants and small purveyors of services should be considered by NY city and state as absolutely vital but they prefer to bend to the prevailing political whims and has taken an antagonistic stance against the event even if they come to the opening. You don’t expect Mike Bloomberg  to do otherwise do you? I do hope other major participants understand and support this effort. What we need is a petition signed by all or enough of the participants and orgs to this effect (deposit it at Mike Bloomberg's doorstep.Congrats !!

HAWKS INTERNATIONAL.........You will be missed.

The first time I ever played Mas was with Hawks. You all were truly a blessing to not only me but also to my family. Can you imagine a little red American boy with his American mother coming into a mas camp looking confused. But the next thing you know that same little boy hears some music and he whining down the place? That was me. I didn't know much about Carnival, since I'm not from the West Indies, but all I knew was I had to be on Eastern Pkwy dancing with a costume.

You all treated me with the utmost 'R.E.S.P.E.C.T.' which is something that's rare to find these days. People are more concerned about winning a damn trophy than the 'WHOLE CARNIVAL EXPERIENCE!' You all took me under your wing and that was one of the best Carnival years I've ever had.

I love you all and I pray God's blessings to all that you endeavor. Don't stay away too long, my heart can't take it.

MAS Lover
